SANTA MONICA—On Oct. 28, a police officer was attacked at a 7-11 located on the corner of 16th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. The attack was captured by a surveillance camera and is being investigated as the nature of what provoked the crime is unknown.

The suspect who attacked the officer, Darryl McIntosh, was previously incarcerated by the same officer he confronted in the convenience store. The officer was part of the arrest team that booked McIntosh, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. The suspect had been released from prison a few months before the incident in October. It is being investigated whether or not he followed the officer into the 7-11 intentionally, as well as intentionally bumping into him inside the store.

The footage of the altercation shows a man bumping into another man in the convenience store and then the two speaking to each other briefly before getting physical. Shelves are seen being knocked over as the officer and McIntosh fight, push and struggle against each other.

“At some point the officer does pull out his firearm to basically tell him if he doesn’t give himself up, he will shoot him if he has to,” said Lt. Saul Rodriguez, to KTLA. The officer did pull out his gun, but did not fire any shots at the suspect. Backup was called and a responding officer came inside the establishment and McIntosh was taken into custody after a baton was used to subdue and restrain him.

The officer who was attacked suffered several injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
