BEVERLY HILLS—Emmy award winner Polly Bergen died at the age of 84 on Saturday, September 20.

The actress starred in the 1962 thriller “ Cape Fear” and comedy film “Kisses for My President” as the first woman president.

Her publicist, Judy Katz, announced in a statement that Bergen passed away around 11 a.m. from natural causes at her home in Southbury, Connecticut, where she  surrounded by intimate friends and family.

She took home the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her work in the 1957 television movie “The Helen Morgan Story.”

The actress battled emphysema, a common lung disease, in the late 90s as a result of her 50 years of smoking. The actress last appeared on the ABC series “Desperate Housewives for several seasons playing the mother of Lynette Scavo’s character.
