UNITED STATES−President Donald Trump was named Grand Marshall of the 62nd Daytona 500 Nascar race at the 500-mile Nascar cup series season opener at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida on Sunday, February 16.

Trump will be the second sitting President to serve as Grand Marshall of the race. Previous Presidents to attend a Daytona 500 was George W. Bush in 2004, when Dale Earnhardt Jr. won his first race, and Ronald Reagan who attended the Firecracker 400 in 1984.

“No matter who wins today’s race, nothing matters more than God, family, and country.”

President Trump took time to recognize and thank Gold star families who’s loved ones are “fallen warriors” who made the supreme sacrifice. He recognized, Medal of Honor recipient, David Bellavia, and all servicemen present.

Some of the other highlights of the race were flyovers by Air Force 1 and Air Force Thunderbird F16s. The historic first lap by the sitting President’s limousine nicknamed, “The Beast.” A quarter lap was taken on the track by the motorcade as the President passed by.

A rain shower interrupted the race just as underway drivers headed for their pit crews for a 50-minute delay. Joe Nemechek drove the 45.

Denny Hamlin won the second Daytona 500 race of his career with the No. 11, Toyota Camry. Joey Logano, nicknamed, “sliced bread,” driving No. 22 in a Mustang GT, matched Hamlin’s 10-1 odds. Brad Keselowski came in third with the No. 2 Ford Mustang for Team Penske. He was followed by Kevin Harvick of No.4 Steward-Haas Racing, followed by Chase Elliott driving the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and Kyle Busch at 13-1 in the No.18 Toyota.
