UNITED STATES—President Trump traveled to Bagram Airfield, north of Kabul in Afghanistan to visit the troops deployed on Thanksgiving Day, November 28.

Video footage captured the POTUS walking into the area where soldiers cheered and taking photos with soldiers.

President Trump traveled 8,331 miles in 13 hours to surprise the troops, serve them a meal and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. He sat and ate with the soldiers, and spent close to 3 hours on the ground in Afghanistan.

“There’s nowhere I’d rather celebrate this Thanksgiving than right here with the toughest, strongest, best, and bravest warriors,” said President Trump. “I’m here to say Happy Thanksgiving and thank you very much. As President of the United States, I have no higher honor than serving as Commander-in-Chief.”

American soldiers have occupied Afghanistan for the last 18 years. President Trump was involved in peace talks a few months ago with the Taliban that came to an abrupt halt after the bombing in Kabul killed a dozen people, including one American soldier. Vice President Mike Pence also visited soldiers in Iraq this week.
