WEST HOLLYWOOD—The City of West Hollywood is now part of the statewide incentive program developed by the California Residential Mitigation Program to help homeowners curt cost of seismic retrofits to their homes.
According to the City of West Hollywood website, Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) has expanded to include West Hollywood and owners of residences in the following zip codes 90046, 90048 and 90069. Homeowners will be eligible for an incentive payment of up to $3,000 to help with costs they incur from earthquake damage.
Those interested in registering for the EBB program can do so starting on Wednesday, January 20. Registration will be open for one month for homeowners in the region. Once it ends, homeowners who qualify will be randomly selected by a random drawing. If chosen, they will be informed they have been selected or placed on a waiting list.
“Residential seismic retrofitting strengthens older homes, making them more resistant to incurring damage during an earthquake. This is done by bolting a house to its foundation to improve the connection between the wood framing and the concrete foundation, and by adding plywood bracing around the perimeter of the crawl space to keep the house from toppling off its foundation,” states weho.org.
The incentive program comes on the heels of an announcement made by the City of West Hollywood in December 2015 regarding its comprehensive Seismic Building Survey. That survey consists of cataloguing existing building stock to help make decisions for the City for its seismic retrofit program. The survey will continue through February 2016.
The EBB program is a part of the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP), which is a joint exercise-of-powers entity formed by its members, the California Earthquake (CEA), and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
