MALIBU—The elderly population (65 years and above) in the Los Angeles region is expected to double between 2010 to 2030, from approximately 1.1 million to over 2.2 million people. To prepare the region for this dramatic demographic shift, the County of Los Angeles and City of Los Angeles jointly launched Purposeful Aging Los Angeles (PALA), an innovative initiative that unites public and private resources, ideas, and strategies.

According to the city of Malibu website, the goal of PALA is to change the future of aging in the Los Angeles Region by creating an area that is the most age-friendly in the world, allowing people to age in place and in community. To obtain this goal, residents are urged to complete the PALA survey at PurposefulAgingLA.com. Survey results will be used to develop an Age-Friendly Plan for the LA region.

The survey is available in 10 languages (English, Armenian, Cambodian, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese), and the confidential PALA Survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and may be submitted by anyone 18 years of age or older who resides in the County or City of Los Angeles. Surveys will be accepted through September 15. PALA will improve the lives of older adults and Los Angelenos of all ages.

Input from residents will be used to develop an Age-Friendly Plan for our region.  The confidential PALA Survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and can be filled out by anyone 18 years of age or older who resides in the County or City of Los Angeles. Participants are asked to take the survey in their preferred language.
