EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The Los Angeles Rams destroyed the pitiful New York Giants, putting up a eye popping 51 points at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on Sunday, November 5. The Rams 51-17 victory improves their record to 6-2, leading the NFL West by one game over the Seattle Seahawks.
Where to begin? The transformation the offense underwent is remarkable. Quarterback Jared Goff has quietly emerged as an elite QB in just his second season.
Every successful quarterback needs a solid offensive line, the Rams have solidified into a cohesive unit. Only allowing 10 sacks this far, compared with the 26 times Goff was wrestled to the turf in 2016.
Also, first year Head Coach Sean McVay has done a fantastic job as the Rams leader. At 31, he is the youngest Head Coach in the history of the NFL. Last year, the Rams were an awful 4-12, dropping 11 of their final 12 games.
Not to mention the receiving core, which some believe to be the greatest turnaround from last year. The Rams drafted Cooper Kupp in the third round of the NFL Draft. Kupp is Goffs number one target.
Everett Scott has fit in well as a tight end alongside Tyler Higbee. The Rams traded to land deep threats from the Buffalo Bills named Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods.
First, there was the rainbow connection with Sammy Watkins for a 67-yd TD. Goff’s stat line was practically flawless – 14 of 22, 311 yards, 4 TDs and no interceptions. His pinpoint accuracy and decision making in the pocket shows maturity beyond his years.
Granted, the G-men are terrible winning one measly game. Still, these Rams are a special group of players destined for the Playoffs. Todd Gurley rumbled for 49 yards, and scored two touchdowns in the process.
Wide Receiver Robert Woods caught a screen pass on 3rd and 33 and took it to the house for his first TD of 2017. Despite the lack of goal line dances, Woods leads the team in yards (451), and receptions (31).
The defense was splendid. I have run out of superlatives to describe their excellence. Scoring a whopping 33 points a game, the Rams are the most potent offense leading the NFL. In addition, they average 382 yards a game.
The Rams haven’t seen the illustrious Colosseum in over a month. Fortunalty, our beloved Rams return home on Sunday, November 12 to face the reeling Houston Texans. The Texans recently loss rookie phenom QB Deshaun Watson to a torn ACL. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:25 p.m.
