MALIBU—The Malibu City Council is inviting the public to join them for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of new restrooms and a pedestrian bridge at Las Flores Creek Park on Tuesday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m.

“The addition of restrooms will make this beautiful neighborhood park much more user friendly for Malibu residents who can walk on the foot paths and bring their children to the playground,” said Malibu Mayor Laura Rosenthal.

According to the City of Malibu website, the completion of the pedestrian bridge and restrooms is Phase 2 of the Las Flores Canyon Creek Restoration and Park Project, which was recently awarded the American Public Works Association’s 2015 Traffic, Mobility and Beautification Project of the Year Award.

The bridge will connect various park elements on Las Flores Canyon Road with the recently completed parking lot on Rambla Pacifico St, which are separated by Las Flores Creek. The new enhancements for the bridge and restrooms were “pre-fabricated and shipped nearly complete to Malibu, where they were installed, and the final components completed. The process greatly reduced the construction impact on the environment and surrounding neighborhood,” states the website.

The first phase of the project was completed in 2008, which saw the removal of man-made obstructions in the creek and surrounding areas. In addition, over 45 various plant species were planted. The first phase also included the installation of walking trails, a playground, and a picnic area.

The project was funded by the California Natural Resources Agency, Wildlife Conservation Board, California Department of Water Resources, and the City.

Those planning to attend the ribbon cutting are asked to park in the parking lot on the west side of the creek, at 3865 Rambla Pacifico, cross the pedestrian bridge, and walk up the hill to the new restrooms and playground where the ceremony will begin. If it rains on the day of the ceremony, the event will be postponed.
