HOLLYWOOD—Well after more than a month dominating theaters, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been dethroned. The buddy cop sequel “Ride Along 2” claimed the top spot over the weekend taking in over $41.5 million during the holiday weekend. The sequel starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube added more star power with Olivia Munn and Ken Jeong. While an impressive debut, the sequel falls short of the nearly $50 million the first installment took in 2014.

Proving that a movie if it’s good it can earn epic numbers is the drama “The Revenant” which is expected to take in over $39 million. In less than 2 weeks the flick starring Leonardo DiCaprio is mere millions from crossing the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office. It looks like the “The Revenant” could be a game-changer this awards season with such impressive numbers with moviegoers and critics.

Landing in third place was “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which added another $32.6 million to its tally. The seventh chapter in the “Star Wars” saga has now earned over $850 million at the domestic box-office and has crossed the $1 billion mark at the world-wide box-office.

Nabbing fourth place was the Michael Bay thriller “13 Hours,” which chronicles the Benghazi incident that made national waves in the news arena. The drama earned over $19.6 million. Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Daddy’s Home” with an additional $12 million to its tally. The flick starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell has earned over $130 million at the domestic box-office.

This weekend sees the release of the thriller “The Boy” and the raunchy comedy “Dirty Grandpa” starring Zac Efron and Robert De Niro.
