SANTA MONICA—Reginald Ford, 39, of Los Angeles was found guilty of two armed robberies in 2012 and was sentenced on August 22 to serve 60 years in a state prison. He was convicted in May 2014 by a jury.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, Ford threatened a young woman on the morning of August 24, 2012 in an alley on the 800 block of Third Street. The victim was sitting in her car, when Ford pointed what appeared to be a handgun at her and ordered her to hand him her money, jewelry, and cell phone. He immediately left the scene before the police arrived.

A few months later, Ford committed a similar crime. On October 9, 2012 Ford approached a young woman and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at her on the 500 block of San Vicente as she was preparing to go to work. The woman screamed and Ford took off. Sgt. Rudy Camarena of the SMPD told Canyon News, “The suspect did not fire his weapon.” Ford was recognized after a fingerprint was found at the scene of the second robbery from the victim’s car door. He was later positively identified by both victims during a follow-up investigation by the SMPD Criminal Investigations Unit.
