SANTA MONICA—The Cheesecake Factory will be coming to Santa Monica Place next spring, the “open air” mall confirms.
According to Wikipedia, the first Cheesecake Factory opened up in Beverly Hills in 1978. “The restaurant established the future chain’s pattern of offering an eclectic menu, big portions, and signature cheesecakes.”
The restaurant has since become a well-known establishment and is even featured in the Warner Bros. sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” in which a main character, Penny, works as an employee at the Cheesecake Factory.
Not everybody is as delighted by the news. A Los Angeles Eater blog posted: “Founded over thirty years ago in Beverly Hills, the mid-range eatery known for lengthy waits, massive cheesecake slices, and waist-busting calorie counts is taking over Richard Sandoval’s La Sandia and Zengo at the third floor of Santa Monica Place.”
Both La Sandia and Zengo will continue to operate on the third floor until March 2015, when the switchover is expected to take place.
