HOLLYWOOD HILLS—On Sunday, December 9, Douglas Campbell, 46, a Los Angeles School Police Department employee, was found dead at Valley View Elementary School in Hollywood Hills.

Campbell’s body was discovered on the grounds of the school, which is located at 6291 Woodrow Wilson Drive. According to Lieutenant Chris Ramirez, a spokesman from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Bureau, Campbell’s body was found near school grounds. He stated that homicide detectives from the bureau do not suspect foul play was involved in the case.

Officers first responded to the scene at 4:15 p.m. when they were called by Valley View Elementary School. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced Campbell, from Torrance, dead at the scene.

According to reports, officials declined to comment on whether obvious signs of trauma were apparent to the body. It was added that the case does not suggest any larger threat to the public.

“It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I report the death of a Los Angeles School Police Sergeant, who passed away in North Hollywood California, on Sunday December 9, 2018, as a result of an off-duty related injury,” said LASPD Chief Steven Zipperman in a statement Monday to CBS Los Angeles. “Our thoughts and prayers and condolences go out to the Sergeant’s family and to the LA School Police Department.”

Campbell’s death is being investigated as a possible suicide. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
