SHERMAN OAKS—A Sherman Oaks-based porn health clinic was shut down by Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials early on Thursday, December 9.

A cease-and-desist order was served to the Adult Industry Healthcare Foundation clinic, disallowing the medical facility to provide new tests. Results of tests already processed may still be given out. Founded in 1998, AIM had become the porn industry’s most popular facility for STD testing in the area.

The shutdown comes days after the clinic was notified that its application for a clinic license to lawfully operate was denied. County health officials only became aware that AIM was operating without a license in April, and informed the facility that it needed a clinic’s license to operate. Although documents were filed, they were deemed to be incomplete by the county officials. AIM has provided information on its website about other places where people could receive the services it provided.

AIM recently was in the news in relation to porn performer Derrick Burts’s revelation that he had tested positive for the HIV virus. Burts had asserted that his contraction of the disease came from working with another performer the clinic knew was positive. This assertion was refuted by AIM, which posted a message on its website from its legal team stating that “any statements made by [Burts] which portray AIM as not providing appropriate and proper services are not truthful and are self-serving.”
