LOS FELIZ—Silverlake Conservatory of Music has made its new home in Los Feliz. The music center came into existence back in 2001 in Sunset Junction when Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Keith Barry, and Pete Weiss founded it together. Their mission was to create a music education experience for the community, focusing on youth in the area. The music center is open to all ages and skill levels. There are also scholarships available to those who qualify, offering free lessons and instruments.

According to their website, the new location of the Silverlake Conservatory of Music used to be a make-up factory, but was refurbished and is now providing 13 lesson studios and a large space designated for recitals.

Besides an upgraded space that suits the needs of the programs available, “SCM’s new home triples our capacity and allows us to double our scholarship program, offering more music education for the kids and kids at heart in our community,” as stated on their website.

Flea stated that they will now be able to combine all choir groups into one 200 person choir, as reported by the Los Angeles Weekly.

The ribbon cutting ceremony and open house took place at the end of October and featured a performance by the Rebirth Brass Band. The new Los Feliz location is located at 4652 Hollywood Boulevard.

The next event will be the Carol-A-Thon, taking place in Larchmont Village, with four rehearsal dates at the conservatory’s new location.
