MALIBU—A small sinkhole began to form early Saturday, February 8 in Malibu. According to authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the sinkhole was likely caused by a water main break.

Residents are asked to avoid areas where road closures are in place. Northbound lanes of Malibu Canyon Roads between Civic Center Place and Malibu Knolls Road have been temporarily closed.

According to LASD’s Twitter page, The Los Angeles Department of Public Works is on the scene working to repair the sinkhole. The team has been using southbound lanes to direct traffic.

Travel delays are to be expected. It is unknown when the temporary closures will be lifted.
