CALIFORNIA—The Founder of Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, Dave McCoy died on Saturday, February 8. McCoy was born in El Segundo, California on August 24, 1915.

He built Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort in 1942, where it became the most popular resort in the Sierra Nevada region. He purchased a small airline to accommodate skiers flying to the resort. McCoy was an avid skier and a California State Champion. After retiring in 2005 from skiing, McCoy took up photography as a hobby. He worked in the ski resort business for over 68 years.

An announcement of McCoy’s death was posted Sunday, February 9, on the Mammoth Mountain Resort website. No further details about the cause of his death have been reported. He had six children with his wife Roma McCoy, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
