SANTA MONICA-”The Santa Monica College (SMC) Symphony Orchestra put on the Santa Monica College Concerto & Aria Competition Winners Concert on March 23.

The performance began at 4:00 p.m. and ended around 6:00 p.m. at the SMC’s Broad Stage in the Performing Arts Center. The event was sponsored by the Westside Music Foundation and the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Santa Monica Bay. The event was $10 to attend.

 

According to the flyer on the Westside Music Foundation’s Facebook page, the event boasted of the talents of four student soloists from Santa Monica High School and Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences: Mollie Bernstein in Grade 12, Sebastian Carrasco in Grade 12, Jeffrey Ho in Grade 12 and Isaac Horwitz-Hirsch in the ninth Grade.

 

Sebastian Carrasco performed Mozart’s “Concerto No. 5 in A Major” on the violin, Jeffrey Ho performed Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33″ on the cello, Mollie Bernstein performed Haydn’s “Concerto in C Major” on the oboe, and Isaac Horwitz-Hirsch performed Goedicke’s “Concert Etude” on the trumpet.

 

Conductor, James Martin and Assistant Conductor, Fang-Ning Lim directed the SMC Symphony Orchestra musicians in Liadow’s “Eight Russian Folksongs” and Ippolitov-Ivanov’s “Caucasian Sketches.”

 

The next event to be performed on SMC’s Broad Stage is SMC Jazz Band on Sunday, March 30.
