SANTA MONICA—Firefighters from the Santa Monica Fire Department battled a blaze on Tuesday, August 15 in the Sunset Park neighborhood. According to a press release Canyon News received from Captain Patrick Nulty, Public Information Officer from the SMFD, at approximately 11:40 a.m. Santa Monica Public Safety Communications received multiple 911 calls about a structure fire at 2020 Ocean Park Blvd.

Fire units arrived with 5 minutes and found a 1 story “four-plex” apartment, with a working fire in 1 apartment unit. Firefighters aggressively attacked the interior region of the fire, and were able to confine the flames to the unit of origin. The fire spread into the common attic of the building, but efforts from firefighters prevented the spread of the fire to adjacent apartment units and limited the damage.

Over 25 firefighters were on scene and contained the fire within 10 minutes. The occupants of the apartment evacuated and there were no reports of any injuries. Helpful neighbors were on hand providing comfort and support to residents who were displaced. The apartment was in an uninhabitable condition. Santa Monica Fire Investigators remained on the scene and determined that the fire was unintentional in nature.
