SANTA MONICA—The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed that on Tuesday, February 19, Stephen Lloyd Fader, 42, was charged with stabbing his mother to death and injuring his father at the family’s Santa Monica home located on the 1200 block of Sunset Avenue.

Howard Fader, 82, and Sharon Fader, 75, were both stabbed multiple times on January 24. Sharon Fader died from injuries she sustained.

Fader, a resident of Brentwood, faces one felony count each of murder and attempted murder. According to Deputy District Attorney Morgan Mallory, the charges against Fader include special allegations that he used a knife as a deadly and dangerous weapon and that he inflicted great bodily injury upon his father who is older than 70 years old.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court on March 11 in Department W31 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch. Case SA099891 was filed on February 4.

If Fader is convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 32 years to life in state prison. His bail has been set at $3 million. A motive for the stabbing has not yet been disclosed to the public. The Santa Monica Police Department are still investigating the case.
