SANTA MONICA—The City of Santa Monica announced that 26th Street, south of Olympic Boulevard will be closed for five days due to the installation of the Expo Light Rail. The street closed at 1:00 a.m. on June 23 and will remain closed until 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27. Twenty-four hour work shifts have been established to complete the installation.

The street closure affected traffic on northbound 26th Street betweenCloverfield Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard; which was redirected atCloverfield Boulevard. Access to the Bergamot Arts Center by vehicles and pedestrians has been maintained from the main entrance on Michigan Avenuedue to the installation of the light rail.

Electronic message boards, flaggers, and directional signs have been provided to direct traffic and parking with the area will not be permitted during the installation. The area will be watered down to minimize dust inhalation and irritation. Noise levels will also be monitored.
