SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department reported a Tesla and a pickup truck crashing in the 900 block of Ocean Avenue on Wednesday, February 26. The collision led to the closure of roads in the area as authorities completed their investigation.
The SMPD indicated on their Instagram page that 9-1-1 dispatch received a call at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers arrived at 11:33 p.m. where a head on collision occurred. One of the involved parties fled the scene on foot. Bystanders provided information that led to the apprehension of the suspect, who has been identified as Jose Louis Rodriguez.
Rodriguez tried to flee the scene of the accident on foot. He was detained and arrested by authorities for felony hit-and-run and felony DUI. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
