HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday, March 20 that Jerrod Vaile-Martindale, 29 was charged in the fatal beating of Julia Culp Myers, 89. Vaile-Martindale was arraigned in court on Wednesday where he was charged with one count each of murder and elder or dependent adult abuse, resulting in death.

The charges include an allegation of using a deadly or dangerous weapon, shoes and feet, in the commission of a felony. The defendant’s arraignment was postponed last month. His bail was set at $2 million.

According to prosecutors, Vaile-Martindale was visiting a Hollywood apartment where his father was living with three other people, including Myers. On February 21, Vaile-Martindale allegedly beat the victim to death. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 26 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.

The case is still under investigation by officials from the Los Angeles Police Department, West Bureau Homicide.
