SANTA MONICA—A bomb squad was called to the 3rd Street Promenade area on Sunday, September 22 at around 10:00 a.m.

A suspicious package was reported near 4th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. At around 10:20 a.m. locals were evacuated from the region. Officials shut down 5th and Broadway Streets during the investigation.

Bomb squad officials deemed the package harmless. The Santa Monica Police Department tweeted at 11:09 a.m., “Police activity has concluded. The area is clear. The suspicious package has been deemed non-threatening. Thank you for your patience.” No other details about the incident is known.

On Sunday, September 16, residents of  Santa Monica were evacuated after a suspicious package was found in a trash can. The suspicious item was also deemed harmless by officials.
