WEST HOLLYWOOD—On Saturday, August 13, a West Hollywood taxi driver was killed in a suspected DUI collision. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the crash involved an Uber driver and another vehicle.

The fatal crash, in which alcohol is believed to be a factor, was reported at 1:39 a.m. on La Brea Avenue near Fountain Avenue. According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the taxi and an Uber car with at least one passenger were traveling eastbound on Fountain crossing La Brea when a woman driving a Hyundai ran a red light and collided with the two vehicles.

The driver died at the scene. The Uber driver and the passenger were not injured. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Enrique Mandujan of the West Hollywood Station indicated to Canyon News that the driver of the Hyundai was detained pending a felony DUI investigation.

According to sheriff’s officials, La Brea Avenue between Fountain and Lexington Avenues were closed until 9 a.m. while authorities completed their investigation.
