MALIBU—Triathletes, celebrities and philanthropists will participate in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox on Sunday, September 18. The triathlon is one of the nation’s biggest. The 30th annual race will be held at Zuma Beach. Participants will face off in a half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike ride and 4 mile run starting at 7 a.m. The triathlon is in support of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program, a program committed to finding a cure and preventative solutions to childhood cancers.

Funds raised from the triathlon will go to the Basic and Translational Cancer Research Program of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The triathlon raised $1.31 million in 2015. Celebrities who participated last year included Chace Crawford, Jon Cryer, Jack Falahee and Michael Weatherly. Triathletes can comprise of corporate teams, professional athletes, challenged athletes and Hollywood celebrities.

It is inspiring to know that each year participants from various backgrounds continue to come to one of the most beautiful sites of Los Angeles—Malibu beach—all in support of this amazing cause.”

Clothing company, Nautica, is looking forward to the triathlon. “This will be our 20th year as the title sponsor of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox. It is one of the events that everyone at Nautica looks forward to each year,” said Karen Murray, President of Nautica. “It is always a pleasure to be part of such an exciting and motivational day where individuals are competing in an effort to support and raise awareness about life-threatening forms of children’s cancer.”

The Nautica Malibu Triathlon has two types of races. Participants can sign up for Herbalife International and the Classic Distance. Both races can be done individually or as a group. The Herbalife International Distance Race is on Saturday, September 17, which will feature a 1.5K Pacific Ocean swim, a 40K bike course along the Pacific Coast Highway and a 10K run course along Zuma Beach.

At 11:00 a.m., there will be a sand castle demonstration. On Saturday, both Pro Awards and Competition Awards will be given out. The Classic Distance Race will be held on September 18, and will feature a half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike course and 4-mile run. Parking will be available at Zuma Beach. For the Herbalife International Distance race you can park in Zuma only prior to the start of the race. Alternative parking is available at the mountain side of Westward Beach Road.

Family  and friends can enjoy and attend events. There are clinics where attendees can learn tips and techiques from the best in the industry. The Fun Zone has arts and crafts, face painters, caricatures and a race for kids called Tot Trot.
