UNITED STATES—It happened to me America, and I did not expect it to happen. I got caught up in the Christmas movie lore. How so? It was a bit of a late night, first day I’ve had off since I can remember to be honest. I wanted to sleep, but I didn’t at the same time, so I was channel surfing. There really wasn’t much on TV, and I just happened to stumble upon a Christmas flick that was airing on a Cable TV. The premise was exactly what you expect; a woman, who is strong-willed, doesn’t need a man, finds herself getting paired with a new colleague.
One who rubs her the wrong way in the beginning. As time progresses, they spend more time together and you start to see the spark between the characters develop. I think I was drawn to the movie because it was set in my hometown of Detroit. So that hooked me. I got the opportunity to see atmospheric shots of the city and iconic staples in the city. The movie did a great job of highlighting the city a lot, and I mean a lot.
With that said, we got the cheesy dialogue that could have been written by a six-year-old. In addition, as a viewer you know what to expect. These two characters will ultimately get together at some point near the movie. For this flick it doesn’t unfold until the actual final minutes of the movie. So yeah, I knew the beginning, the middle and the end of the movie, but I didn’t care. I was hooked, and this is why the Christmas movie is so popular during this time of year, and year-round. It gives you the feels and it makes you feel good watching.
Yeah, it sounds crazy, but this is the nature of the beast America and I love it, I truly do love it. Christmas movies are all about spending time with family and loved ones. That is the key word ‘love.’ Who doesn’t love love, and these movies know how to do it is the easiest way that you get hooked no matter what. The plotline is always the same, the characters may be different, but the pattern works. So guess what? Hollywood cranks them out in massive numbers. I’ve noticed in 2024, that all the various streaming platforms have like there own Christmas movies for the season.
Yeah, if you have Cable you will easily be able to find a Christmas movie that fits your niche. Look, I’m not a Hallmark guy, but that doesn’t mean I will not watch one of those flicks if it’s the right one that manages to hook me in the best possible way. I did want to change the channel multiple times while watching this Xmas flick, but my instinct wouldn’t allow me to do it. It was almost like I wanted to SEE how the flick would end, even though I knew how it would end.
Look, I’m not about to get in a Xmas movie marathon and watching them all day during a binge, but it never hurts to watch a movie or two when your free time allows it. Why? It spruces your mood in the best possible way and who doesn’t need that in a society where there feels like so much division and hate at times? I know I do and I’m pretty sure a massive majority of America feels the same way.
