UNITED STATES_”By now, I’m certain everyone has seen the countless commercials depicting the deadline to sign up for healthcare via the Affordable Health Care Act. In other words, what so many has titled Obamacare. As some of you may already know, this is just a simple ploy to attempt to get as many Americans to sign up as they possibly can.

As you may already note, from my previous columns I’m not a fan of Obamacare for multiple reasons. The whole system was a complete catastrophe to begin with. Who makes plans to launch this extravagant system without ensuring that all the kinks and glitches have been fixed? On top of that no one has actually stepped up to take accountability for the impending issues. It’s always like the answer is deflected to someone else.

My biggest concern with the system is the countless problems, I don’t feel comfortable in any shape, way or form providing any personal information to a system that has had so many problems. Can I be assured that my personal information like my address and social security number will not fall into the hands of the wrong person?  Look we’ve already witnessed the fiasco involving major retailer Target, and a few countless others who have had breaches in their systems resulting in customers having their personal information stolen.

My biggest gripe with the Affordable Health Care Act is the government’s idea of penalizing people for not signing up for it. I can’t get this notion out of my head. Do you honestly think penalizing people who are already barely making ends meet is going to force them to sign up for health insurance? It has to be the stupidest, unexplainable piece of crap that I’ve ever heard. Not for a second do I believe any person chooses to NOT have healthcare or insurance.

Everyone wants to be covered – in case’ something goes wrong, but at the same time, you can’t pay for something that you can’t afford, why hasn’t the government grasped that concept.  I mean if you’re telling me I can get health insurance for $10 a month, sign me up. But come on, really, we already know the insurance industry is a huge cash cow, just like so many others. They barter deals with pharmaceutical companies to sell medicine at skyrocketing rates to bring in the big bucks, knowing all along so many people can’t live without certain drugs.

I’ve even become skeptical to the fact that some drugs are being sold just for the sake of being sold to make money, having no impact at all on the patient. If anything the drug might be actually causing more harm than actually helping the patient improve. We all like to believe that the power of medicine can solve everything, but it’s not always the case, a healthy lifestyle should be at the top of the list. That doesn’t mean being healthy won’t prevent you from getting sick as it can happen to anyone at any given time. My concern is why so many insurance companies are not willing to cover surgeries that their customers may need, if I’m paying you insurance I would expect when I need to utilize what I’ve paid to you its not a question of if, when and how much, its just taken care of.

Not to mention the fact that these companies enjoy the benefit of holding medicine from those who MIGHT actually need it to survive because they are unable to pay the fee for it. This is what I hoped President Obama would address: regulating the pricing and services in the medical profession. I mean things are so out of hand its hard to believe anyone would be so comfortable to sign up for a system without fully knowing that the insurance that they’ve paid for encompasses all the benefits they may need or perhaps what benefits may be left out.

Something that government should learn about the American people is that you can never force them to do something against their will. Doing so is pushing someone into a corner and when that occurs people chose to fight back. Healthcare is a must in America, but in my opinion there shouldn’t be a cost, heck we live in one of the world’s richest countries, so explain to me why centuries later we’re continuing to have this conversation.
