HOLLYWOOD—Well awards are still being handed out even though awards season ended nearly 2 months ago. This weekend the annual MTV Movie Awards took place with comedian Kevin Hart and action-star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson taking on hosting duties. Hmm, that might have been one of the smartest pairings the network has done in years for hosting duties.

Hart brought the funny, just as ‘The Rock’ proved he has great comedic timing as well. The duo kicked off the ceremony paying tribute to some of the biggest flicks of 2015 and partially of 2016, with an epic “Mad Max: Fury Road” tribute. I mean for the first time that I can ever recall, an award show was being hosted literally outdoors. Nice surprise, but I felt bad for those in the audience who had to stand for most of the ceremony.

Hart and Johnson went all out dressing up as Batman and Superman. The first 30 minutes was heavily sprinkled with expletives. That rap routine poking fun at that infamous scene from “The Revenant” involving Leonardo DiCaprio was not only a highlight, but funny as hell. Another fun moment was seeing Salt n’ Pepa hit the stage to pay tribute to Mr. Ryan Reynolds for Best Comedic Performance by singing their hit “Shoop.”

The big winner of the night was the biggest flick of 2015, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which took home three awards including Movie of the Year. The night’s other big winner was “Deadpool” which took home two popcorn trophies.

There was plenty of star power in the audience to accept awards, but more so to market and advertise upcoming flicks. Um the cast of “Captain America: Civil War,” the cast of “Suicide Squad” and so many other flicks slated to arrive in the multiplexes this summer. There was even a tease for the second season of “Scream: The TV Series” which looks spooky good. A list of the night’s winners can be seen below:

Some other highlights at the ceremony involved Melissa McCarthy being honored with the Comedic Genius Award. Will Smith being honored with the MTV Generation Award. Big time names like Queen Latifah and Halle Berry took to the stage to pay tribute to Mr. Smith before he took to the stage.
