BEVERLY HILLS—This years ceremony for The Peabody Awards will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel located at 9500 Wilshire Blvd. near Rodeo Drive on Thursday, June 18.

The Peabody Awards were previously held at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA and in New York. The award was created in 1940, by a cabinet of citizens of the National Association of Broadcasters, the Peabody Award was established to honor brilliance in radio broadcasting.

The Peabody Board of Jurors carefully selected 60 nominees, which include journalists, scholars, critics, and industry professionals. Nominations are chosen in categories, such as entertainment, children and youth programming, documentary, radio/podcast and news. Thirty nominees will be selected and winners will be awarded during the ceremony.

In April 2019, the official nominees for the Peabody Awards will be disclosed, and the winners will be announced in May. In order to get a nomination for a project, nominees must receive a unanimous vote by the board jurors.

“Moving the ceremony to Los Angeles reflects the evolution of Peabody’s commitment to celebrating the meaningful and significant narratives about pressing social issues, right in the world’s capital of content creation,” said Executive Director of Peabody Jeffrey Jones in a statement.

The Peabody Award was named after American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody and celebrates excellence in radio and television.
