BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywood all the news was about the women of Tinseltown. Entertainment’s leading ladies made history, they testified against world leaders and much more in the town that never sleeps.

Isabel Cueva, the beautiful and talented Latina actress, writer and director, along with her business partner Douglas Tait are excited about a film that is close to Cueva’s heart. The much talked about “In The Name Of Freedom” continues to make the film festival circuit and is winning awards and garnering a lot of much deserved attention. On Thursday morning Isabel and I spoke about her new passion. When asked why she decided to do this film, Cueva replied, “A couple reasons. I wanted to deliver a message of hope and inspire people to love one another. I also wanted to honor men and women who have been prisoners of war. As an actress I needed to play a character that could allow me to completely transform into someone else; (physically and emotionally) since I don’t come across a lot of roles that allow me to take those challenges.”

Speaking about the great buzz the film is garnering, Cueva added, “I’m so shocked that my first short film is doing so well, I hoped, but I never thought it would be accepted to many great film festivals, win Best Short twice, an Imagen Award Nomination, a CINE Golden Eagle Award for Best Short Film -(Independent category), which is an honor I share with Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, George Lukas and many other great directors. I’ most happy for the great friends and the contacts I have made with this film.”

Isabel is currently taking Hollywood by storm, and many A-listers are talking about her work in this film. “I would like to work with Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Guillermor Del Toro, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Sean Penn, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, I seriously could go on for a while,” said Cueva. “I could not have made this film without a great cast, the talents and help of Douglas Tait (actor, co-editor, executive producer), Matt Cinematographer Alex Lehmann, Ellis Burman (Sound Designer), Dennis Doornbos (Co-Editor), Composer Max Di Carlo, Set Designer Tony Swansey, Academy Award Make-Up Designer Barney Burman (Star Trek XI) and producers Matt Anderson, Ryan Williams, Rod Blythe and Sgt. Ted Wood.”

“In The Name Of Freedom” will be shown on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica International Film Festival, then on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Holly Shorts Film Festival at Laemmle Sunset 5 West Hollywood.

Eva Mendes did not release a sex tape despite online rumors to the contrary. The beautiful actress released a faux tape on the “Funny or Die” website, which became an Internet sensation. Mendes says that she was inspired to release this when she found out that “Eva Mendes sex tape” was at the top of the Google search engine. Finally an actress who actually finds humor in some of the appalling rumors that find their way making the rounds by Cyberspace.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell made headlines last week. However, this time she wasn’t being accused of beating up any of her assistants. The British beauty testified in the Netherlands that she was given “Blood Diamonds” by former Liberian ruler Charles Taylor ”“ who, prosecutors say, swapped guns to rebels in neighboring Sierra Leone for uncut diamonds during that country’s 1992-2002 civil war. Campbell agreed to testify weeks ago, and she is not being accused of a crime in this case.

On Wednesday, a trial began in Los Angeles surrounding the death of former cover girl Anna Nicole Smith, who died in 2007 in the Bahamas just months after son Daniel was found dead in her hospital room from an apparent drug overdose. Two of Smith’s physicians and former lawyer and boyfriend Howard K. Stern are on trial for allegedly doping the star and providing prescriptions to a drug addict. All the defendants have pleaded not guilty in the case. The trial is expected to last three months.

Talk show hostess Ellen Degeneres was among the party goers in West Hollywood on Wednesday night just after a Federal judge in San Francisco overturned Proposition 8, which banned gays from being married. Ellen tweeted, “Equality won!” Other ladies speaking out include Pink, who said, “It’s a good day!” Reality star Kim Kardashian tweeted, “Prop 8 was struck down! This news is amazing!!!! Its about time! Congrats to everyone!” Breaking away from the words of famous women in Hollywood, the State’s chief executive officer, Governor Arnold Schwarzennegger said, “This decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves.”
