BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywood was hot to say the least. With September temperatures soaring, you’d think summer was just beginning and not ending. However, fall is the time for events and concerts, so this coming week will be no exception. The Seventh Annual Evening with the Stars is the hottest ticket in town and this year it’s at a great location for everyone. The Brentwood-based band ACIDIC will also be traveling in Southern California doing concerts and thankfully Lindsay Lohan went into rehab, slowing down the unending news cycle of stories about her legal problems. TLC now is promoting bad behavior, and Hollywood said goodnight to a “Titanic” star.

This year’s Evening with the Stars is very exciting and at my favorite location: next to CBS Television City and The Grove. The star-studded evening is all about charity and helping kids who are suffering from cancer. Stars attending from “The Bold and the Beautiful,” include Ronn Moss, John McCook, Lesley-Anne Down, Brandon Beemer and Don Diamont. From “The Young and the Restless,” stars include Kate Linder, Elizabeth Hendrickson, Sean Young and Michelle Stafford. From ABC’s “General Hospital,” stars include Ted King, Laura Wright, Dominic Zamprogna and Steve Burton. Many other celebrities will also be in attendance.

The actors will be meeting and greeting fans and signing autographs at the Seventh Annual Evening with the Stars (EWS), benefiting the Desi Geestman Foundation (DGF). The foundation’s goal is to provide financial and emotional support to the innocent victims of childhood cancer and their families at the City of Hope National Medical Center and other children’s hospitals.

Desi Geestman was a little girl with a big dream of one day helping to touch the lives of children with cancer. She will always remain special to the cast and crew of “B&B” and “Y&R” as her father, Bernie, is a member of the Bell Phillip Television Productions family. Desi ultimately lost her battle with cancer, but her dream lives on through her foundation and through Evening with the Stars.

This year’s star-studded event will be held on Saturday, October 9, at a beautiful Los Angeles landmark, the Gilmore Adobe at the Farmers Market. Tickets for this VIP event are $100 per person. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet, greet and dine with celebrity guests, enjoy passed and stationed hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, silent auction and a sneak peek at the fabulous recipe book of your favorite Daytime Stars, “Soap Dishes” the Cookbook.

ACIDIC tells Canyon News that they are very excited about upcoming shows in the region. The talented band started in a Santa Monica garage, like so many other successful bands, and will be performing on Saturday, October 9 at Cedar Center in Lancaster; Sunday, October 10, you can find them at V V E C in Victorville; Wednesday, October 13, at Chain Reaction in Anaheim; on Thursday, October 14, at Jerry’s Pizza in Bakersfield; and bringing up the end of the California tour they will be in Modesto at the Modesto Virtual on Friday, October 15, and at The Refuge in Cupertino on Saturday, October 16. You can learn more by going to their official website at Acidicband.com.

On the legal brief, actress Lindsay Lohan has checked herself into another rehab facility and the TLC reality stars of “Sister Wives” are being investigated by the Utah legal authorities for allegedly committing bigamy, which is a felony. TLC used to be must-see TV for showing documentaries about nature, history and world geography; however, now TLC has joined the long list of other cable stations that specialize in promoting bad behavior and, in this case, possible illegalities. It’s a shame that “The Learning Channel” is now pandering to the lowest common denominator amongst us.

More sad news this week came on Monday, when we found out that Academy Award-nominated actress Gloria Stuart passed on. Miss Stuart was nominated for an Oscar in 1998 for her role as (older) Rose in James Cameron’s acclaimed epic “Titanic.” In her youth, Stuart was a stunner who starred in B pictures as well as some higher-profile ones such as “The Invisible Man,” Busby Berkeley’s “Gold Diggers of 1935” and two Shirley Temple movies, “Poor Little Rich Girl” and “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.” By the mid-1940s, she had retired. Then she returned to work in the 1970s.

Stuart was born in 1910 in Santa Monica, and began acting while in college. She soon signed with Universal Studios, which was responsible for “The Old Dark House” and many other horror classics of the 1930s. Miss Stuart was 100.

Sending everyone good wishes for the week ahead. See you next week! XOXO
