WESTWOOD—Actor Val Edward Kilmer, who starred in the films “Batman Forever” and “Top Gun,” was hospitalized on January 31, to undergo tests for a for a possible tumor.

The day Kilmer was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, he wrote in a Facebook post, “Thank you for all your sweet support. But I have not had a tumor, or a tumor operations, or any operation. I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the ucla ICU.”

Kilmer belongs to the Christian Science religious movement, which dictates that its members avoid almost all medical treatment.

Kilmer’s family members reported to TMZ that the “Top Gun” actor indeed has a tumor and has known about  it since summer, when he began having trouble speaking and his neck reportedly swelled so dramatically that he began covering it.

Additionally, the family members reported that Kilmer avoided treatment due to his Christian Science beliefs and shunned anyone who insisted he receive medical help.

Kilmer wrote, “We are waiting for x ray results and will stay close to my doctors advising, my family and Christian Science practitioner when all the facts are in.”
