HOLLYWOOD—When you think of love, you immediately think of the lyrics of Rick Springfield. The power of love, and the feel of the power of love. “Love Somebody” is featured in the 1984 movie “Hard to Hold.” The songs music video includes clips from the movie. After recording his debut album, Beginnings, in London, Springfield moved to the United States in mid 1972.

Springfield provided all the songwriting, lead vocals, guitar, keyboard and banjo for the album. Springfield’s fans are called Rick’s chicks, and his biggest hit was “Jessie’s Girl,” which was a number one hit in the US and Australia in 1981. The song won Springfield a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal performance. Sammy Hagar wrote and performed “I’ve Done Everything for You,” and was released as a single in 1978. A version by Rick Springfield in 1981 became top 10 hit in the US.

With Valentine’s Day just a few weeks away, it was appropriate to write about Rick Springfield. His music and acting career have often been centered around love and relationships. Valentine’s Day can be very sad when single people are alone. When people break up prior to Valentine’s Day, it is always devastating. You take a chance, open your heart and then you get crushed.

It can be mind-boggling when you realize that love never fails, people do. It’s cruel to be dumped anytime of the year, however, before Valentine’s Day, it is painful. Extremely painful. Traditionally, Valentine’s Day is a day to receive flowers or receive chocolates, dinner and watching movies together. Of course, nowadays, it’s hard to find someone to shower you with a Hermes bag. If you do have someone like that, hold on tight.

There are five movies being released on February 14, one of them is “Captain America: Brave New World,” Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan. The movie stars Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler and Rosa Salazer and many more. The film, “I’m still Here,” is a movie about a mother that is forced to reinvent herself when her family’s life is shattered by an act of arbitrary violence during the tightening grip of a military dictatorship in Brazil, 1971. The film stars, Fernanda Torres, Fernanda Montenegro and Selton Mello.

The film titled “Verona’s Romeo and Juliet,” is based on the real story that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it follows the greatest love story of all time, set as an original top musical. It is perfect for Valentine’s Day. The film stars Jason Isaacs, Dan Fogler and Rebel Wilson. Another release on Valentine’s Day is “You, Me & Her.” The movie is about a married couple that flirts with a threesome to rediscover themselves.

Last but not least being released on Valentine’s Day, is “Desire Lines,” A film about an Iranian American trans man who travels back in time to an LGBTQ+ archive to understand his sexuality. He encounters his past and present selves during an erotic journey of self -discovery.  The film stars Aden Hakimi, Andre Alan Perez and Theo Germaine among many others.

If you want to stay home, the fourth Bridget Jones movie titled “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” stars Renee Zellweger in the title role, will arrive on Peacock on Valentine’s Day 2025. The cast alongside Zellweger, includes Emma Thompson. Thompson also co-wrote the screenplay for the third installment in the franchise. Hugh Grant, who played Daniel Cleaver one of Jones’ love interests in “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Bridget Jones’s: The Edge of Reason” (2004) will also return.

Colin Firth appears as Mark Darcy in what looks like flashbacks that can be seen in the trailer.  “The Gorge”- will be release on Apple TV, the film follows two highly trained operatives who become close after being sent to protect opposite sides of a mysterious gorge.

Rose’s Scoop: By now, the New Year’s resolution of losing weight has gone out the window. The thought of eating chocolates in Valentine’s Day is something everyone is looking forward to. January 20, 2025 was also the Inauguration of President  Donald Trump, our now 47th President.
