My name is Dustin, and do I ever have a story for you! There is a happy ending, however, so I don’t want you to worry, ok?
The family that I thought would be part of my life forever, moved away in June and left me all alone. Can you imagine that? I sat at the back door waiting for them to come back, but that never happened. A wonderful woman put food and water out for me every day, but I still didn’t trust her to come near me. I was scared of everyone, so no one could catch me.
Finally, a few weeks ago, the woman told a man by the name of Eldad Hagar about me, as he had rescued many dogs before. Well, I didn’t know him, so I didn’t trust him, either.
He put a big wire cage in the yard that had a blanket and food inside. I wanted the food, so I went in far enough to get the food. I left my rear legs outside of the cage, so that I could make a quick getaway if I had to. Something told me that if I went in all of the way the gate on the cage would close and I would be trapped.
Well, I got scared and started running. Eldad followed me in his car for two hours, never giving up. Finally, I went into a backyard where I was cornered in a space that I couldn’t escape from without going passed Eldad. I must admit that I didn’t make it easy for him, but after a while I let him pet me, and I knew by his touch and voice that he was a friend and only wanted to help me.
He brought me to the Friends of Animals Foundation, where, again, not knowing anyone, I was pretty scared. However, it didn’t take very long to know that everyone was my friend, and I am being given lots of love and wonderful care.
Everyone says that I’m very sweet and smart, so now I would love to belong to a family that will never leave me, and will love me forever. So, I hope that you will call to see me.
