HOLLYWOOD—On June 22, the Hollywood Walk of Fame Selection Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the Class of 2016 Honorees whose names will be added to the famous Hollywood attraction.
The selection committee met earlier in June to select stars from the hundreds nominated. Among the nominees are actors Steven Carell, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Keaton, director Quentin Tarantino, broadcaster Ralph Lawler, and actor/playwright Harvey Fierstein.
Harvey Fierstein tweeted, “Just got exciting news… I’m being inducted into the Hollywood walk of fame! Ain’t I fancy? Hope I’m not near a Porto potty.”
Every year, the Walk of Fame receives an average of 200 nominations via a nomination form found on their website. The form asks for the nominee’s brief biography, qualification, and list of community contributions among other information. The Selection Committee, made up of experts in each category, votes on nominations and chooses between 20 and 30 stars each year.
Ceremonies for new stars will be held during the placement of their name on the Walk of Fame. They have five years to schedule the ceremony after which their applications will expire. The ceremony fee is $30,000 to pay for the creation, installation, and maintenance of the star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is responsible for the installation of new stars while the Hollywood Entertainment District keeps the sidewalk clean.
