SHERMAN OAKS—Two water pipes burst on Thursday, June 27, in the Sherman Oaks and Westwood.

A service call was made between midnight and 1:30 a.m. to the Los Angeles Police Department. The report was for a water main break at the intersection of Hartsook Street and Costello Avenue. officials from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power arrived shortly after the report was made to shut of the water. According to LAPD some damage was caused to the streets.

The second water break occurred around 2:00 a.m. in Westwood at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Glen Drive. An eight-inch cast iron pipe broke in several places causing water to flow down five blocks which caused the street to cave in. Jessica Johnson of the LADWP Media Relations shared with Canyon News that, “No customers in the Westwood area were affected by the leaks because the main was isolated at the intersection and there were no services connections in that section of pipe.”

At least one lane was shut down on both Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Glen Drive for repairs.

“Crews finished repairs and water service is back on for customers. The crews poured slurry in the void and are installing street plates for traffic to go through. Final work and clean-up is being done. The street will be open for traffic around 4pm today. Pavement of the street will occur on Monday,” Johnson told Canyon News.

According to Johnson, both of the leaks were unrelated since they are fed by different water sources and pressure zones.
