WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood approved to open its first open-air Cannabis restaurant in the United States. “Lowell Farms: A Cannabis Cafe” is expected to open for business in September at 1201 North La Brea Ave. and provide areas to smoke.

On Tuesday, July 16, the West Hollywood Business License Commission approved a cannabis consumption license at Lowell Farms.

According to a business license background, West Hollywood voters approved the legalization of adult-use cannabis, with 83 percent of voters voting in favor of the measure.

“Staff anticipates that the applications that have already been received will go before the business license commission in either July or August. These applicants are also working with Planning/Building & Safety regarding their tenant improvement plans, and with the state on their state cannabis licenses,” an update on the license process provides.

Several locations are anticipated to open within the next 3-6 months. Both retail and consumption lounge locations will be open on the Sunset Strip, the Eastside, in Mid-City, and on the Westside.

The cafe will be located next to the Congregation Kol Ami synagogue. Rabbi Denise Eger pleaded during the meeting on Tuesday for the business license to be rejected, as there were concerns of the smell of cannabis in this region.
