UNITED STATES—Having a human resources (HR) plan is just as important as having a business plan in place.   • Attendance and timekeeping are poor. If you are battling with employees who are constantly taking leave and are not meeting their deadlines, then strategizing on how you can encourage a drive for working harder may be a call to action. Perhaps more flexible working hours would increase production? Perhaps some employees need help with reliable transport?
  • There is a lack of discipline within the workforce. If you are battling with disrespectful employees or if customer relations are poor, then a new order of disciplinary action may be needed.
  • Your employees seem disheartened and resentful. If your team members walk around looking depressed and uninterested in their work, it may be time for you to find out what it is that gets them so down at work. Update your performance reviews to make room for investigations into why employees feel the way they do and ask them what can be done to make them enjoy being at work.
  • New legislations come into place. The rules and regulations regarding how business needs to be conducted are constantly changing. This means that HR departments need to continuously review their policies to ensure that they are updated as and when new laws are being introduced.
