LOS ANGELES—Wood just keeps on rolling. After another strong performance on Friday night, he improved his record to a perfect 7-0 en route to a 3-1 Dodgers win over the Cincinnati Reds. He is the first pitcher to get this deep into a season without a loss since Orel Hershiser went 11 games without a loss in 1985.

“Very rarely does a pitcher have the command he’s had of three pitches over this period of time,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “As a hitter, you know when a pitcher is on the attack and it’s a helpless feeling.”

The left hander pitched a season high eight innings, surrendering four hits and one run with no walks.  He did not surrender a run until the eighth inning when Devin Mesoraco hit a solo home run for the Reds sole run of the game.

“We’ve been pretty good about pushing the envelope a little bit later in the game and getting ourselves back in the game,” Price said. “And we just weren’t really able to put a lot of pressure on Wood. He did a great job.”

The Dodgers were able to put pressure of the Reds Tim Adelman (4-3, 4.22 ERA) early. He lasted six innings, while giving up two runs off five hits and four walks. Joc Pederson was the first to strike when he knocked a solo homer in the second inning. Chris Taylor followed with a third inning RBI double that scored Justin Turner, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games, while Cody Bellinger was thrown out at home.

Wood contributed to his own cause in the eighth inning when he layed the wood on a Drew Storen pitch, recording an RBI single. It’s only the pitchers second hit of the season. Kenley Jansen came on after Wood left to record his 14th save in 1454 tries. He gave up a lead off double, but was able to strike out the next three batters on nine pitches. He extended his Major League record to start a season without allowing a walk to 28 2/3 innings.

The win continues the Dodgers dominance over the Reds who have now won six straight against Cincinnati, and 15 of 18 games since 2015. The Dodgers will look to continue their dominance as Hyun-Jin Ryu takes the mound against Asher Wojciechowski.
