HOLLYWOOD—This week’s Leading Ladies Gold Standard goes to two beautiful and dynamic performers who have nurtured their characters over the years and made such an indelible mark on their roles that they can do almost anything theatrically and come out on top. Sharon Case, who portrays Sharon Newman on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” and Adrienne Frantz, who portrays Amber Moore on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful” both shocked viewers this week with performances that showed their characters naiveté to serious situations.

Sharon Case, who is Sharon Newman on “Y&R” is one of Genoa City’s perennial victims. Her heart is always taken advantage of by men, who use her and then throw her away, when they no longer need her. Nick threw Sharon away for Phyllis and Adam this week even though he did so for unselfish reasons, took off and left Sharon wondering where he’d moved to. Case’s sublime performance is legendary. She is a consummate professional thespian, who has mastered the art of playing heroine, without become a total victim. However, if Sharon thought Adam would be a solid man in her life, she should have remembered that he kidnapped her daughter Faith at birth, gave it to Ashley as her own child and lied to Sharon, that her baby died. That being said, Sharon Case is undeniably fascinating and totally entertaining in the part.

Amber Moore is always in the middle of drama on “B&B.” If Amber’s not creating the drama, it is still attracted to her. This week Amber was an unwitting victim of Bill Spencer. Just as she was about to be shoved off a cliff in Malibu to her death, a tree branch happened to fall down during a windstorm and knocked her off the ledge and down to a rocky beach. Bill didn’t actually have to push the diva. Mother-nature beat him to it. Luckily for her, Steffy was there moments after the incident and was able to struggle and pull her back from the brink.

Amber should be very aware of the dangers of crossing dangerous people. Bill Spencer, a ruthless billionaire in L.A. is not the first villain she’s become the obsession of. Just a few years earlier, Amber was taken hostage by the most dangerous woman in the Western World, Sheila Carter. Amber was saved that time as well, but Taylor Forrester and Brooke Logan took bullets from the deranged vixen instead. Frantz’s ability to play innocent and naïve is fascinating to watch.

“Y&R” and “B&B” air weekdays on CBS.
