SANTA MONICA—A $10,000 bench warrant was issued for the rapper, Tyga, 26, on Tuesday, August 9. The arrest warrant was issued after Tyga failed to appear in a Santa Monica court on August 9. Tyga, whose real name is Michael Ray Stevenson was previously ordered to appear for a court hearing to discuss his finances and failure to pay the judgement on a 2012 lawsuit.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Nancy Newman issued the warrant after Tyga did not show up to the hearing. TMZ indicated that this warrant is a bench warrant that means Tyga could go to jail. According to reports the rapper is currently in Turks and Caicos with Kylie Jenner celebrating her birthday.

In 2012, Tyga’s previous landlord, Ghloamreza Rezai, went to court claiming that the rapper had missed a rent payment, skipped out on the lease, and left the home in need of repairs. Earlier this year the judge approved a judgement against Tyga in favor of the landlord for over $480,000.

“What we’re asking for is any asset that’s transferred since July 20, when this has been served. The law allows us to take possession, to use it to satisfy any outstanding judgments,” said Boris Treyzon, the plaintiff’s attorney.

In court on Tuesday, the landlord’s attorney noted that media outlets had reported that Tyga recently bought his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, a $200,000 Maybach car for her birthday. According to TMZ, Tyga has had a curious financial history with cars being repossessed, being evicted, and recently signed a lease on a 12,800 square foot Bel Air mansion in July that costs $46,000 a month.

Tyga is currently signed to Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money. Last year he earned two nominations at the BET Awards for Best Video of the Year and Best Collaboration. He recently appeared in the movie “Barbershop: The Next Cut.” He has appeared on episodes of the E! reality series “Keeping up the Kardashians” alongside Kylie and the rest of the Jenner clan.
