SANTA MONICA—Officials from the Santa Monica Police Department are searching for an armed robbery suspect that pointed a gun at victims sitting inside their car in the area of 21st and Montana on Wednesday, October 2.

Canyon News spoke to Lt. Candice Cobarrubias of the SMPD, who stated that officers responded to a call at 7:50 p.m. about a Caucasian male in his late 20s, wearing a dark hoodie, black shorts, and white shoes. The man approached individuals sitting in a car demanding money while pointing a handgun at them. The victims drove away from the scene to a safe area where they contacted the police.

The SMPD arrived on the scene and set up a large perimeter from 20th to 23rd/Montana to Carlyle, as well as utilizing the Los Angeles Police Department Airship to obtain an overhead visual of the suspect. Authorities received word that the suspect may have possibly fled in a vehicle of some sort and was last seen driving westbound on Montana away from the area.

The SMPD called off the search, but detectives plan to follow up and provide additional information when available.  Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Santa Monica Police Department.
