SANTA MONICA—On February 21, at approximately 12:32 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau, Special Weapons Team, was dispatched to the 800 block of Ocean Park Blvd. to apprehend a barricaded suspect.

After a nearly five-hour standoff, which forced local residents to evacuate their homes, the suspect, 28-year-old David Carillo, was taken into custody without any further incident.

Deputy Kelvin Moody, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s public information officer, told Canyon News, “For several hours there were numerous attempts to have the suspect leave the location, but he refused and he remained inside the location.”

According to a statement, the Special Weapons Team deployed tear gas canisters into complex where Carillo was hiding and the suspect began to exit the location.

Deputy Moody added, “He then attempted to return back inside, and the Special Enforcement Bureau canine was deployed. The canine was able to control and bring the suspect to awaiting deputy personnel…the suspect was treated on the scene for his injuries.”

Carillo was reportedly wanted for his involvement in a South Los Angeles homicide. It is unclear whether the homicide in question referred to the shooting death of an adult male on the 9900 block of Budlong Ave, which occurred earlier that same day.

Carillo is in custody with a $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on February 25 at Department 5 of the Inglewood Courthouse.

He faces one count of murder. His case number is YA092058.
