“Rehearsal is the iterative process of transformation, a way to move things from the head into the body, and a testing ground for interpretation, adaptation and change. The vision for Beach Dances: Repetitions stems from this. We’re working to not only support artists by providing a ‘literal’ platform for art-making,’” says Naomi Okuyama, City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Supervisor.
“With Beach Dances, we encourage visitors to consider not only watching what the choreographers and dancers are doing, but also to look around at the cyclists, picnickers, swimmers, bird watchers and kite flyers on the beach and around the Beach House in the context of movement and composition.”
