SANTA MONICA—A body was recovered on the Santa Monica beach on March 22. The Los Angeles County Lifeguards discovered the body around 3:49 p.m. on the 1200 block of the beach, the same area where a swimmer went missing.

It prompted an intensive search where a dive team, boats and air rescue units were deployed on March 12 in an attempt to locate the swimmer.  The Santa Monica Police Department were notified and proceeded to call in the Los Angeles County Coroner.

No connection has been made between the missing swimmer and the body SMPD Lt. Saul Rodriguez told the Santa Monica Daily Press.

The identification of the missing swimmer remains unconfirmed and no missing persons reports has been filed since the male swimmer was last seen.

Rodriguez informed the SMDP that a missing persons report of a man visiting the area from Ireland was filed and some property was recovered from the beach.

Canyon News attempted to contact Kenichi Haskett, Lifeguard Section Chief who was assigned as Incident Commander for the missing swimmer, but did not hear back from him in time for print.
