BEL AIR—Another cover of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is taking the internet by storm, this time with a Grand Theft Auto twist.

Youtube user Merfish is well-known for using the popular video game GTA V to recreate the openings to popular television shows. His work has been featured on IGN, Wired, and Reddit, among many others. Using Rockstar Editor and “mods,” or user-made moderations, to the game, Merfish makes surprisingly faithful reproductions of the source material—with, of course, a few alterations for violent and humorous effect.

For instance, a rocket launcher notably does not make an appearance in the original opening to “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” but provides the punchline to Merfish’s version.

A side-by-side comparison of the two shows that, despite his creative license, Merfish stayed as true to the original’s timing and camera angles as possible.

And for those who prefer more slapstick mayhem, there are outtakes.

Among the other shows Merfish has covered are family-friendly “Arthur,” “Family Matters” and “Franklin.”

Merfish currently releases videos “every day, except for when I take long naps and forget,” so fans of his work can look forward to many more GTA-style shenanigans to come. He also has a Patreon, where people who like his work can support him on a per-video basis.
