LOS FELIZ—Safety, security and traffic enforcement at the famous Hollywood sign will be heightened for the entire week of the Fourth of July. Los Angeles City Councilmember  David E. Ryu, tweeted about the increased security on Monday, July 2.

Council member David Ryu tweets about increased security this week at the Hollywood sign.

The increased security measures began on Saturday, June 30 and will continue through Sunday, July 8.

“With a great sign comes great responsibility, and during this busy summer holiday, we need to ensure the safety of all people around the Hollywood Sign, residents and visitors alike,” said Councilmember Ryu.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) and The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will provide the increased security and traffic enforcement in the region. The security will be covered by the LADOT and LAPD departments’ budgets. In the past, Councilmember Ryu used discretionary funds to provide additional security at the sign during holidays. The 2018-2019 fiscal year budget allows for $1 million dedicated to the Hollywood sign security and traffic enforcement in the surrounding communities.

“With more and more visitors wanting to see our iconic Sign, it’s crucial we have the security and resources to match. We cannot continue to fund security for such a popular sign in a piecemeal way – we need real, dedicated funding from the City. That’s why I’m proud to see Hollywood Sign security in this year’s budget, and I look forward to more security and safety features around the Sign in the years to come,” states Ryu on his website.
