NEWARK, NJ—A high school basketball coach tried stopping his players from bullying another student and was instead attacked by them on February 4.
The assault occurred on Tuesday night outside Malcolm X. Shabazz High School in Newark, New Jersey and was captured on video which has gone viral on social media. In the video, members of the junior varsity basketball can be seen kicking and punching their own coach while he is on the ground attempting to cover his body and face. The students had just returned from an away game and were said to be bullying another student, when the coach intervened before he was attacked.
Students involved in the incident have all been suspended. The incident is being investigated to determine what charges could be filed against the individuals involved in the attack. The names of the students will not be released as they are minors.
