MALIBU—A mother and her son were rescued Saturday, April 27 from a cliff at Point Dume State Beach in Malibu.

The incident was reported at 3:42 p.m. near Birdview Avenue and Cliffside Drive. The mother and son were hiking at Point Dume State Beach when they both got stuck on a cliff that was 50 feet above the ocean.

Officials tweeted that firefighters established a lowering system to assist both the mother and her child from the cliff. The hikers were lowered to safety at about 4:45 p.m. Paramedics examined both the mother and her son and determined that they were not injured.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s latest statistical summary, the Los Angeles County Fire Department responds to a total of 324,102 emergency medical responses a year.
