HOLLYWOOD—I cannot believe the end is near for the hit ABC series “How to Get Away With Murder.” I mean the first season of this series was some of the best TV I witnessed in years. It had a hook, twists and surprises along the way that kept the viewers guessing and I mean guessing each episode. The second season was ok, not stellar, but I thought the third season bounced back in a major way.

The fourth and fifth seasons were decent entries, but I must agree this is a series that can’t go for 10 years. You just have to know when it’s time to hang things up, and here we are. The sixth season picks up with surprise, a death, and a funeral, and there wasn’t much mystery. The person lying in that casket was Annalise Keating, but the audience was delivered a surprise. How so? It was all a dream that Annalise was suffering from at least in the beginning.

Annalise was in such a bad place after Laurel and Christopher were kidnapped that she turned to the bottle and to the bottle hard. It got so bad that she indulged in drugs and found herself in the ER. Who was there by her side? Of course, it was Bonnie playing the savior to help the woman who helped her dearly at a time when she needed it most. Annalise knew she was spiraling and it led to Annalise checking herself into rehab to seek treatment.

Let’s just say this rehab facility was the last place that Annalise wanted to be, but it was either this or death. While in rehab, Annalise spilled a big secret about her hubby’s demise, and that slip could come back to haunt our killer attorney if that confidante decides to speak. Back on the home front, Bonnie, Frank, Michaela, Connor, Asher and Oliver were going thru a variety of scenarios in an attempt to locate Laurel and Christopher.

Of course, fingers were pointed in multiple directions, but in the end, whoever kidnapped Laurel and her son, knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Think about that people, and you’ll have a good clue of who may have been responsible for the kidnapping. Michaela continued to push Gabriel away, just as he pushed more to stay in her orbit.

The duo finally took their relationship to the next level, just as it became apparent that Gabriel’s mother is up to no good spying on his every move. Nate was busy trying to pinpoint precisely what killed Emmett, and at first I thought it may have been the Governor and Xavier who took out Emmett. However, as the episode moved along the fact that his autopsy occurred in London and Teagan’s unease about Nate digging pointed the finger at her in my eyes. Maybe Teagan took out her mentor to claim the top seat at the firm?

The two biggest surprises was the realization from Asher, Oliver and Connor that Annalise knew Michaela’s father, and the writers seem to be pointing to the fact that Annalise carefully chose her Keating 5 passed on their past. It’s only a theory at this point, but that theory is absolutely starting to gain some momentum. Bonnie and Frank reported Laurel and Christopher’s disappearance to the cops, and the audience didn’t see Laurel at ALL this episode, so that is worrisome as a viewer.

One more important piece of evidence was Frank discovering that key hidden behind a photo in Christopher’s room, which we don’t know exactly what it leads to yet. As I stated, the episode opened with a funeral and ended with a funeral, this one with a flash-forward, where the audience doesn’t see a body, but we see a picture of Annalise. So it raises two vital questions: is Annalise actually dead? And if so, who killed her? New episodes of “How to Get Away With Murder” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
